Indoor plants that are safe for pets
It’s true. Not all plants and pets mix. And if your little Marmalade is a nibbler, then it’s certainly better to be safe than sorry.
Of course the best method to protect your pets is to hang your plants high out of reach, or maybe go all out and start an Ikea hack greenhouse! But for those that are not quite ready to renovate the house around their plant collection, there are still a lot of options for indoor green life that are safe for your fur babies. These plants are known as non-toxic for pets, so the effects will not be fatal if ingested. Bear in mind, however, that anything consumed in large amounts can still cause stomach upset and digestional issues, so if Rover starts chomping down to the root, it’s best to remove it immediately.
PALMS
Most palms, including the Chamaedorea elegans (Parlour Palm) and Rhapis excelsa (Lady Palm) are considered safe for pets.
PRAYER PLANTS
You can have gorgeous foliage and pets too! The Calathea family, including Prayer plants like the Ctenanthe below are non toxic and safe for pets.
FERNS
Most ferns are considered safe for pets, including the Boston fern, Macho fern, Asplenium and Maidenhair. The one in this family to watch out for is the Asparagus fern, which is not considered safe.
PEPEROMIA
The many varieties of uniquely coloured and shaped Peperomia provide lots of options for the plant loving pet owner, and best of all - they are all considered non-toxic and safe.
